Great technicians rarely have real freedom in life.
Why is that?
Being an artist in your expertise – your skill sets that you went to school for and trained arduously for – can be a great thing to have. A lot of very intelligent people get excellent grades in school and then go on to excel in their profession. But the problem is, there’s no true freedom.
Our society is built on this transactional construct of trading your time and expertise for dollars – either by starting a business or going into a career profession.
To have real freedom in life, you’ve got to create alternative streams of income that aren’t dependent on you to produce them.
If you don’t, you’re in a place you really can’t get out of. It’s a place of thinking that someday (after 30 or 40 years), you’ll hopefully have saved enough and can sell your business and live off that money for the rest of your life.
Most people think that they are on a plan, following mainstream financial advice, investing in stocks, bonds, annuities, and 401(k)s. But then they get to 60, 65, 70 years old and realize that plan didn’t get close to what they really needed or wanted.
You’ve got to challenge the majority “group thinking” if you want to live a different life from everybody else.
I had to challenge myself early on in my career, due to personal health issues within my family. I’m grateful today to have had those challenges because they changed the way I look at my life, my business, and how I leverage and multiply my efforts beyond what I do with my own hands and brain.
There are only so many hours in a day that we can trade for dollars – even a brain surgeon has an income limit.
Everybody needs to learn to leverage and create alternative streams of income. To do that, you have to change your environment, specifically, the people you choose to spend time with – business networking, coaching, mentoring, and masterminds.
You usually surround yourself with people that keep you feeling comfortable and you just go along, living life like everyone else. You’ve got to get into groups that will challenge you and push you to the next level.
Challenge yourself, say it out loud, put some stakes in the ground, make it happen. You’ve got to decide that you’re not going to live life on this hamster wheel, doing what you’ve always done, hoping it’s the right thing.
Hope’s not a good roadmap. I have a blueprint that will make it happen – that’s what we do in Freedom Founders.
I couldn’t get where I’ve gotten in life if I’d kept doing what I’d always done. I had to step out of my comfort zone, change my environment, and make additional things happen. The key to it was that I surrounded myself with the right kind of people.
To your freedom!
David

One thought on “Change Your Environment”
This is the very message that led me to Freedom Founders. It’s to hard to sustain change in an old environment. New people with positive growth oriented values and ACTIONS help sustain the thought and behavioral changes that are required to become more so you can have more.
